About Rock For Hunger
It starts in Orlando
In a country where poverty and homelessness are an afterthought to
a plunging economy, taking one glance on the streets of Orlando
reminds you that poverty does not solely exist in developing
countries, but right here in our backyard. In the fall of 2006,
Chris Goyzueta and a group of aspiring college students decided it
was time to make an impact in their community. The group used the
voice and talent of local musicians to raise awareness and funding
for the homeless population of Downtown Orlando, culminating with
the first Rock For Hunger Fest in November 2006.
Fast forward a few years and you will see a trail of actions that
have made the community take notice of not only Rock For Hunger,
but all those suffering from poverty here in Central Florida. Rock
For Hunger has been there every step of the way from providing warm
meals to over 150 people every Monday night to career development,
lifestyle training, assisting with after school programs, and
granting access to creative field trips that aim to stop poverty at
its roots. Not to mention a music festival that attracts National
attention, world renowned artists and keeps the programs running
smoothly to truly change the lives of everyone Rock For Hunger
helps.
This year Rock For Hunger aims to open the Dreams Center, a place
where those who have been affected by poverty or homelessness can
come for support and inspiration. Not only will it provide basic
needs such as meals and clothing; it will provide a comfortable and
friendly learning environment for those individuals who are ready
for job training and lifestyle design programs based on their needs
and preferences. This has all been made possible by our community
of volunteers, partners, musicians and sponsors that have a passion
for change and see the desire to make our community a better
place.
Music gets people together, music can send a powerful message, and
music can spread peace.
"Music can change the world, because music can change
people"
- Bono.

Rock for Hunger is working on building the bridge between other
nonprofit Organizations, companies, churches, and individuals who
all see to end Poverty! Rock for Hunger is currently developing
programs that will help provide food, shelter, education,
job/business skills, life skills (such as budgeting, etc.), and
many other needs that will help willing individuals break their
cycle of poverty, and remain out of it. In Orlando, FL we have
started a group that goes to bring food, clothes, entertainment,
and companionship to the homeless every Monday. Our goal is to
inspire people of all walks of life to start groups such as these
in their communities all over the United States. It is highly
important that we care for each other, and end the problems within
our community. We can not end poverty worldwide without being able
to end poverty in our own country. Only by working together as one
community in peace, can we end poverty in our own country.
There are over 75 Million people living in Poverty in the US, of
which 25% are Children!
